Best Business Practices- Appreciating What Works!

Part 1: Tell us 1 of your BEST business practices from your 1st year in business that actually did produce results.


This is a welcome question because sometimes we move so fast that we forget how far we have come. It is amazing the kind of perspective you can gain when you stop and think back to when you first began. One of the best practices that we established in our first year of owning our business was to have our agents represent either the BUYER or the SELLER- never both. We knew this idea was uncommon (even unheard of where we are located!) but we just had a hunch that this was an important practice to try out. It turns out that it was successful from the beginning, and it has since become a keystone in our company philosophy.

The idea of running a company that had separate buyers agents and listing agents came from the years we spent working at a firm where we were strongly encouraged to sell our own listings. I always felt this was a little disingenuous as I do not think that it is possible to work 100% for both parties of a sale. We still reply on this practice today, and we are so glad that we took a leap of faith and choose to work what we felt would be best even when the outcome was uncertain.


Part 2: Tell us who your Most Powerful mentor was (or still is) that you either took a Seminar from or hired as your Coach. 


My husband is my most powerful mentor. He is brilliant, kind, and full of empathy. He is able to give advice that is nuanced and knowledgeable. He has a special gift of relating to all of types of people. I still enjoy working along him and watching him work in the way only he can.

Interestingly, in my husband’s desire to share wisdom and help others grow, he ended up finding a mentor of his own- a life coach. He is the only Certified Napoleon Hill trainer in PA. If you have never read about the 17 principles of Napoleon Hill, I would encourage you to look it up. It has been instrumental in our success as a brokerage.

After year of benefiting from his boundless positivity and objectivity we hired this life coach to be available to our team. We figured that offering our agents access to someone who could help them verbalize and realize their goals would only serve to support our team. We still offer his services to this day, and many agents cite this perk as a reason they enjoy working with our team.



Part 3: Tell us about 1 Business Practice that you are Currently Attempting to put into place but haven't quite gotten there yet. 

We have several business practices that we are currently attempting to put into place. One of the best parts of starting our own company is that we are free to take our business in any direction we feel is best for our team. This includes taking into consideration many types of potential business practices that may not work in a traditional brokerage atmosphere. One of these practices is creating a private Facebook page used a sort of community center for all of our agents. We could use it to post new/coming soon listings, ask questions to one another, post schedules/announcements, and post pictures. We have two offices on either side of the river that cuts through our area. They are only several miles apart but we could use this private Facebook page to stay in touch with one another- create a sense of camaraderie and foster relationships.
